JULY 20, 2010

President Ann Ormond opened the meeting with the right blend of gavel swinging and bell ringing agilities.  At her first meeting as President, she barely hit the bell, most likely out of her concern of splitting everyone’s ear drums.  At the second meeting, she hit that bell with such gusto that it startled Chuck nearly dumped the salad mixings and abruptly awake Zac from a brief siesta, nearly falling off his chair.  The third time, this meeting, was a charm!  Good job, Ann!

The membership, guests and visiting Rotarians all joined together singing, God Bless America followed by a touching Invocation presented by Ann Ormond,  Then, of course, we all sang Here We Are Again led by non-other than Ted Sheppard.  What a wonderful start to a great meeting!

LUNCH followed with a choice of fish cakes with steamed kale or pork smothered in vegetable lasagna.

HAPPY DOLLARS

Wow!  Was there every an outpouring of Happy Dollars this week!

Vicki Hendrickson kicked off the sharing the good news that her daughter-in-law completed the NY Triathlon coached by her son.  As she approached the final 6 miles, he kept cheering her on to the point where she saved a mile off her best time.  That was worth $6!

Claire Cohen, one our newest Rotarians, was proud to share that her grand children are visiting her and doing the camping thing.  Sounds like a fun filled vacation for all!

Grace Connolly’s happy dollar was to share that she and Jim successfully suffered the climbing of White Face Mountains.  Guess that hiking trek over the Pyrenees in Spain made this latest hike seem line a walk in the park!

Chuck Withee gave up multiple happy dollars as an apology for missing last week’s meeting, one for his daughter’s successfully knee surgery and another for the leisurely bike ride he and Scott Vandersall had this morning that eventually turned into, you guessed it, a full blown race!  Surprised, anyone?

John Leary’s happy dollars was to announce the raffle sponsored by Opportunity Works.  Wonderful prizes are being offered including Red Sock’s tickets.  Drawing scheduled for July 31st.  Contact John for tickets or info at leary@comcast.net   Your support is appreciated!

Jane Yandell was happy to announce that her mother celebrated her 90th Birthday! Whoopee! How wonderful is that?

Cindy Johnson was happy to report that her son moved back home in June and has recently moved out again having found his own apartment.

Lisa Sutton, another of our newest Rotarians, happily announced that she spend a fabulous

girls weekend with her daughter. There is no better thing to do then to connect with family.

(Happy Dollars continued)

Kiki Cashman spent time with family at Old Orchard Beach and also announced that her mother will celebrate her 83rd birthday this Thursday!  Happy Birthday, Mrs. Cashman!

Usha Chatterjee shared her joy that her children participated in an Indian-Japanese Bridal Shower with all the traditional festivities.

David Hall’s happy dollars were to remind everyone about the Kayak raffle and the need to return the $35 each for the raffle tickets previously distributed.  Money and ticket stubs can be dropped off at his office in the Tannery or with Ann Ormond at the Chamber of Commerce office downtown.  Please do not delay!

Ann Ormond’s happy dollars was for hopes for a very successful Sausage Sandwich sale at this Sunday’s Home Coming opening day festivities at the Mall.  If each of us bought just two sandwiches ($5 each) ,we would sell 148 sandwiches!  Wow!  Skip breakfast and support our Rotary effort this Sunday!  Your body will thank you as will your fellow Rotarians!

STUMP THE CHUMP

This interesting and entertaining new addition to our weekly meetings is designed to get to know each other better.  The idea is for a pre-selected Rotarian to share three things about themselves that no one knows, one of which is not true.  Then Rotarians try to identify which statement is untrue.  Well, this week it was Zac Longley.  His reveals were 1) he is a Viet Nam vet 2) he has a camp on Goat Island 3) he’s a graduate of University of Connecticut.  Guess anyone?  The incorrect statement is lsI s’peehS ton  lsI  taoG   Did you get that?
