We opened the meeting on September 7 by singing "America the Beautiful", George Cashman gave the invocation, and after lunch the team of Zack and Ted led us in singing # 20 in the songbook..."Take Me Out to the Ball Game."

Happy Dollars

Liz Cullen was happy to report that after Fr. Ray Richard's visit and his request for an autoclave, one was found by Sue Christ. Strange as it seems, Burger King has a container being shipped to Honduras and agreed to let us include this autoclave with their shipment. Sue paid a Happy Dollar, her boss Scott Goodspeed, paid a Happy Dollar; and Claudia paid a Happy Dollar because everybody was so happy!

Picture Fines

President Geri had more pictures... those who had to pay were Kent Allen, Peter Kelly, Jay McGovern, and Don Belliveau.

Fireside Chat

This Thursday, there will be a fireside chat for new members at the home of Claudia Harris.

Birthdays and Anniversaries

Happy Birthday to Mary Larnard, Liz Cullen (9/10), and Geri Dorr (9/11).

Program

Our program today was Classification talks by Jean Francois Barre and Bill Lipman.

Jean Francois was born in Quebec City and is a fan of the Expos. His ancestry starts in  Wethersfield, CT; and that person founded Newark, NJ. Then his family moved to Deerfield, MA where his forefather was kidnapped by the Indians and taken to Montreal. Jean also studied Biochemistry at Lavalle University, but really didn't like that so he changed to Political Science and Law. His mother is a nurse and his father an Olympian in kayaking. His family has always been in the restaurant business. Ten years ago he visited Newburyport where he met his wife. They have been married eight years and have three children. He works for ReMax and loves the energy of Rotary.

Dr. Bill Lipman was our next speaker. Bill is an orthopedic surgeon at Newburyport Orthopedics where he has been for 25 years. Since Dr. Musser retired, Bill has become the senior associate. He grew  up in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Loyola College. He then attended the University of Maryland Medical School and did his internship at Brown in Providence, RI. From there he went to work for the Air Force in Plattsburgh, NY. He is married and has three children. His wife thinks he spends too much time with doctors, so he feels Rotary will be a good organization where he can meet new people.
