The July 13 meeting was opened with the usual singing of "America the Beautiful", and Bob Kirsner gave the invocation. Lunch was baked scallops or roast turkey with gravy. After dinner we sang "Side by Side" with the help of Ted and Frank.

Guests and Visiting Rotarians

The guest book was read by Don Beliveau. Our only visitor was Steve Boyd from Belfast. Now was that Belfast, Maine or Belfast, Ireland. He presented a club banner to Geri and she gave Steve one of our banners.

Happy Dollars

Liz Cullen was happy that her daughter just received her Masters in Economics from a college in Scotland

Birthdays and Anniversaries

President Geri announced that Jim Hughes was having a birthday and would have to pay a double fine because he also had to leave early. Also celebrating birthdays were George Cashman (7/12) and Don Beliveau (7/17). Because it was also George's Birthday, his grandchildren brought two cakes to the meeting and we all had dessert.

New Members

We had two new members to install today. Liz Cullen introduced Bill Lipman, an orthopedic doctor at Seacoast Medical Associates. His reason for wanting to be a Rotarian is to give back to the community. Liz presented him with a Rotary pin and welcomed him as a new member. George Cashman introduced Scott Vandersall, Vice President of Banknorth in Newburyport. George presented him with a Rotary pin and welcomed him to the Newburyport Rotary Club.

Announcements

  • Geri said that we are going to see more badge fines assessed this year. If you have a badge, wear it. If you don't have a badge, wear someone else's or order a new one.
  • The chicken BBQ (Sunday, August 1) is going to be bigger and better this year. The sign up sheet is still being passed around. Everyone should get involved because it is really a day of fun.
  • The Canoe Raffle is going strong. The canoe was displayed at the waterfront this past weekend and $300.00 worth of tickets were sold. Kate Kelly said Lunt & Kelly's has brought in $650.00. Now with all the tickets distributed to the members, we should be getting more sales. Geri has set a goal of $3500.00. Let's sell, sell, sell!
  • Jay Howlett will speak on July 27 with some new ideas he has for Rotary. Plan to be there.

Raffle

$21.00 was won by our guest from Belfast.
