Tuesday, July 6, was the first meeting under the new reign of President Geri Dorr. The slogan for this year will be "Celebrate Rotary" and that's because it is Rotary International's 100th anniversary. Many good things will happen this year, so get ready to celebrate!

Due to the absence of Ted Shepard, our pianist, Zack led the singing of "God Bless America." The invocation was given by Bob Kirsner in his usual Hebrew/English version. We then enjoyed lunch of baked manicotti or grilled salmon.

Guests and Visiting Rotarians

The guest book was read by Lew Burridge who was also serving as Sgt. at Arms in the absence of Arlene Santa Fe, our new Sgt. at Arms. John Budzyna was our only recorded guest.

State of the Club Address

Geri made a small introduction speech telling us that we are going to work on getting new members introduced to all club members and make them feel welcome. She is going to build on existing programs rather than introduce new ones. She feels Newburyport Rotary does so many good things that go unnoticed, so this year we will push for more publicity. This year the fine for birthdays and anniversaries will be $10 ... that's only $20 a year for those who are married and $10 for singles.

Announcements

  • Kate Kelly has tickets for the canoe raffle which she is distributing today. Everyone will be responsible for selling or buying $20 worth of tickets.
  • There will be a new members "Fireside Chat" this Thursday night at Claudia's house.
  • Gerry Hirsh said we will be selling canoe raffle tickets this Saturday from 12-4 at the waterfront. He just needs four people to sell tickets for one hour each.
  • The Chicken BBQ will be Sunday, August 1. Sign up sheet was passed around.

New Member Proposal

President Geri gave the first reading for John Budzyna as a proposed new member.

If no objections are filed within ten days, the applicant upon payment of his admission fee, is considered elected to membership.
